About the Event

Finish off the year by learning a new skill! Middle and high schoolers are invited to join us for a pit-fired pottery class on Saturday, December 30, at 9:30am. Local Pueblo artist and teacher, Laura Nungaray will show students how our ancestors made ceramics without a modern-day kiln. Each student will get to make their own pottery piece to take home and contribute to a community piece that will be displayed at Log Cabin Village. While the community piece will be pit-fired on-site, the individual pottery pieces will be kiln-fired off-site; students will be able to pick up their completed pieces from the Village after the kiln-firing is finished.

Since pit firing can take anywhere from 12-24 hours, students and the public will be able to watch the completed community ceramic come out of the fire in a video posted on the Village’s website and social media channels.

· This class is designed for middle and high schoolers; we do ask that an adult accompanies each student and stays on-site during the 2-hour class.

· The program fee is $30/participant. Program fee includes admission to the Village, making one pottery piece that will be fired to take home, and participation in creating a pit-fired community ceramic.

· Space is limited and reservations are required. Register online using the RSVP button on this page or by calling 817-392-5881.

· Must pay for registration by calling the Village at 817-392-5881 within 48 hours of reserving a spot. After 48 hours, the spot will be released for other participants. Because funds are used to secure program supplies and to hold participant spots (making them unavailable for other guests), class payments are non-refundable. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

About your instructor: Laura Nungaray (Pueblo) is a local middle school art teacher with a Bachelor's degree in Art Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
